Program Director’s Welcome

We thank you for your interest in our program. Florida Institute for Advanced Dental Education is an AEGD all aspect of general dentistry. Our program is an American Dental Association-accredited (through the Commission on Dental Accreditation), as a 1+1= 2-year certificate program offered to foreign trained dentist.

Our Advanced Education General Dental program covers up 16 operating rooms per week at Miami Dade Community College Hygiene Clinic.

The residency program offers Modern Techniques (CBCT), Implantology, Orthodontics, Periodontology, Comprehensive Rehabilitation, Fixed Prosthodontic, Removable Prosthetics, Complex Multi-Discipline and Restorative Cases.

Our Numbers Residents and Patient Care Numbers

The Advanced Education in General Dentistry Program at the Dade County Dental Research Clinic d/b/a Florida Institute for Advanced Dental Education and Community Smiles Dental Clinic is a one year, with the option of a second year, postdoctoral education program based in Miami, Florida. The program has a total of 16-18 residents between the first and second years.

 

The program offers the residents the experience to provide routine, complex and comprehensive dental care in healthy and compromised patients. This is done in both outpatient and hospital settings.

Our didactic program consists of approximately 348 hours per year, including lectures, workshops and grand rounds, covering all specialties of dentistry. The dental staff is comprised of both General Dentists and specialists.

Dade County Dental Research Clinic d/b/a Florida Institute for Advanced Dental Education and Community Smiles Dental Clinic Advanced Education in General Dentistry Program does not issue dental licenses. Requirements for US dental licenses vary from state to state. For more information, please access the ADA website and the Board of Dentistry website of the state you are interested. The 12 and 24 month-programs grant an Advanced Education in General Dentistry in Dentistry Certificate.

Dade County Dental Research Clinic d/b/a Florida Institute for Advanced Dental Education AEGD and Community Dental Clinic volunteer faculty members, faculty members and several visiting faculty from different specialties that are involved in the residents education. Our clinical facilities have up to 16 functional dental operatories. Our residents perform an average of 67,000 dental procedures per year.

Accreditation

The program in advanced education in general dentistry (12 months/optional 2nd year) is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. The Commission is a specialized accrediting body recognized by the United States Department of Education. The Commission on Dental Accreditation has accredited the program in advanced education in general dentistry (12 months/optional 2nd year). However, accreditation of the program does not in itself constitute recognition of any dental specialty status.
