Requirements:

Candidates must apply online at www.adeapass.org.  Under application programs click on advanced programs. Search Dade County Dental Research Clinic (AEGD143). To be considered, candidates must upload the following documents through the ADEA PASS website only if nothing will be mailed in.

  • DMD/DDS/BDS Degree
  • Official TOEFL score report (Minimum passing score: 85 or higher, under the old system that will be in place until 2027, or the new system a score of at least 4.0 or but may be as high as 4.5)


It is mandatory for applicants whose dental degree was completed at school where English is not the official language. If you have graduated from an American program, please do not apply.

 

    • Integrated National Board Dental Examination, Official national board part I and II score report.
    • Official dental transcripts

       

  • Certified English Translation report needed if any documents are in another language.

  • Three (3) Letters of Professional Reference can be a combination of the following 
    • dental school dean
    • dental faculty
    •  dental department chair

  • Proof of Immigration status (color copy only)
    • Permanent Resident Card (Green Card)
    • A Certificate of Naturalization/ US Passport/ US Birth Certificate
    • Appropriate Visa allowing work study


We do not process any student Visa. Please be very careful because if you cannot finish the program for any reason, we cannot refund money after the start of the program.

Selection Process:


This competitive process begins with the selection of about
sixty (60) candidates from the list of applications received. These candidates will be required to:

  • Take the Bench Test and based on the scores, about thirty (30) candidates will be interviewed by a panel of faculty members and complete a written questionnaire.

    Final selection will be made by the Residency Director based on scores from the panel of faculty reviewers. Some students will be accepted immediately, and others may be placed on a waiting list and still have a chance to get into the program later.

Bench Test Process:
During the bench test, the Residency Director will supervise and provide details on each portion of the exam, including assigned tooth numbers. Candidates will be assigned to an operatory and must complete the following procedures on a Typodont within a 2-hour and 45-minute time limit:

  • Ceramic Crown Preparation
  • Porcelain to Metal Crown Preparation
  • MO Composite Restoration Preparation
  • Provisional/Temporary Crown Fabrication
  • Endodontic Access Preparation


Bench Test Rules and Guidelines:

  • Use only the provided instruments and materials (No outside supplies except for dental loupes)
  • Do not remove the Typodont from the pole
  • No music or communication with other candidates
  • All questions or requests must be directed at the supervising staff by raising your hand
  • Time limits will be strictly enforced – when instructed to stop, stop immediately
  • No electronics of any kind will be allowed during the bench test
  • Bathroom breaks are allowed, but time will not be adjusted
  • In case of an emergency evacuation, the test will be paused and resumed from where you left off once it is safe to return
  • Manage your time wisely – avoid procrastination but do not rush; aim to present your best work


If you experience equipment failure
, notify the supervising staff by raising your hand. Any lost time will be added back.

If any of these rules are broken it will be considered an automatic failure, with immediate dismissal of the candidate.
